In very general terms, there are 3 general game plans used. You must be agile enough to switch game plans almost instantly as the action of the game unfolds.

The Blockade

This consists of creating a 6-deep wall of pieces, or at a minimum as deep as you can manage, to block in the opponent’s pieces that are located on your 1-point. This is considered to be the most adequate strategy at the start of the match. You can build the wall anywhere within your eleven-point and your 2-point and then shift it into your home board as the match progresses.

The Blitz

This is comprised of closing your home board as quickly as possible while keeping your opposer on the bar. e.g., if your opponent tosses an early two and shifts one checker from your one-point to your three-point and you then toss a 5-5, you are able to play six/one six/one 8/3 eight/three. Your opposer is now in big-time dire straits taking into account that they have two checkers on the bar and you have closed half your inside board!

The Backgame

This course of action is where you have 2 or higher pieces in your opponent’s home board. (An anchor spot is a position occupied by at a minimum two of your pieces.) It would be used when you are decidedly behind as this action greatly improves your opportunities. The best locations for anchor spots are towards your opponent’s lower points and either on adjoining points or with a single point separating them. Timing is crucial for a powerful backgame: after all, there is no point having 2 nice anchors and a complete wall in your own inner board if you are then required to break up this right away, while your opposer is shifting their checkers home, considering that you don’t have any other additional pieces to move! In this case, it is better to have pieces on the bar so that you can maintain your position up till your opposer gives you an opportunity to hit, so it may be a wonderful idea to attempt and get your opposer to hit them in this case!

The goal of a Backgammon game is to shift your pieces around the Backgammon board and bear those pieces from the game board quicker than your competitor who works harder to attempt the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a round of Backgammon needsrequires both strategy and good luck. How far you will be able to shift your chips is left to the numbers from tossing a pair of dice, and just how you move your pieces are decided on by your overall playing strategies. Enthusiasts use different plans in the differing stages of a game depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Plan

The goal of the Running Game technique is to entice all your pieces into your home board and pull them off as quick as you can. This strategy focuses on the speed of shifting your pieces with absolutely no efforts to hit or barricade your opponent’s checkers. The best scenario to employ this technique is when you think you can shift your own checkers a lot faster than your opponent does: when 1) you have less chips on the board; 2) all your chips have moved beyond your competitor’s chips; or 3) the opponent does not use the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Plan

The primary goal of the blocking technique, by the name, is to stop your opponent’s checkers, temporarily, not worrying about shifting your pieces rapidly. After you’ve established the blockade for your competitor’s movement with a couple of checkers, you can shift your other chips quickly from the board. The player will need to also have an apparent strategy when to back off and move the checkers that you used for blocking. The game becomes intriguing when the opponent utilizes the same blocking strategy.
