As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of ability and luck. The goal is to shift your checkers carefully around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opponent shifts their pieces toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With opposing player checkers shifting in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for particular strategies at particular instances. The Priming Game Plan

If the purpose of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to move her checkers, the Priming Game plan is to completely block any activity of the opposing player by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s checkers will either get bumped, or end up in a damaged position if he/she ever attempts to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be established anyplace between point two and point eleven in your board. Once you’ve successfully constructed the prime to stop the movement of the competitor, the competitor does not even get to roll the dice, that means you move your pieces and toss the dice yet again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The objectives of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions hoping to better your chances of succeeding, however the Back Game strategy uses alternate techniques to do that. The Back Game technique is generally used when you are far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this strategy, you need to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This strategy is more challenging than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the checkers are moved is partially the result of the dice roll.
